David Jones and Sensory Lab

David Jones, 297 Little Collins St, Melbourne
Date visited: 17th August 2012

We dropped by Sensory Lab to get my coffee fix, after popping down to David Jones to get some cheeses.

How I love my cheese.  They had lots of different types of cheeses and types of Old Telegraph Road cheeses that I couldn't find in the supermarket.

Got a slice of OTR brie ($61.95 for 1kg) and mascarpone stuffed figs ($4.50 each).  The lady at the counter offered us a free apricot with blue mascarpone ($2.50) to try.  Gotta love 'em freebies :)

Sensory Lab is just on the way out of David Jones on the Little Collins St side.  I like the clinical looking green decor.

You can sit in and enjoy your coffee, but we got ours to go.  For takeaway, you order at the designated counter outside.  One of the staff greeted us at the main counter (above) and when I said I was having mine to go, she asked me to order from outside (below).

A few minutes later, who should come and serve me but the same lady herself.  @.@  I didn't have small change and I sure didn't want to get a huge amount of small change with coins for my $50 so I used my card.  Turns out the machine wasn't working at the takeaway counter, so I was led right back to the main counter inside where I was initially.  >:D

Although it was a good idea in concept, that people could stop by the counter on Lt Collins St and get takeaway coffee, the store does have two entrances and it's just weird for shoppers coming from DJ to have to walk outside to get their coffee especially when it's windy or raining.  That's just my opinion.

Of course it was a typical cool and windy Melbourne afternoon, so although the coffees were piping hot it got cold really quickly :(

Plain cup.
Forgot to open it and to see if there was coffee art :(
Other than that, it was a pretty good coffee and I had nothing to complain about.
